This policy explains how the ABC Smash app (“the App”, “we”, “us”) handles information. The App is directed to children and families, and we have designed it to comply with the Google Play Families Policy, the Apple App Store guidelines for apps used by children, the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and the EU General Data Protection Regulation, including its provisions for children (GDPR / GDPR-K).
We do not collect any personal information. There are no user accounts, no login, and no registration, in the App or on the website. We do not ask for a name, email address, phone number, photo, location, or any other personal detail. We never collect advertising IDs, and we never build an advertising profile of anyone.
What we do collect is usage measurement: anonymous counts of how the game is used, and which campaign, if any, led to a download or a visit. Section 3 covers the App and Section 5 the website.
To make the game work and remember your progress, the App saves a small amount of data locally on your device only (in the browser’s local storage). This includes:
This information never leaves your device. It is not transmitted to us or to anyone else. You can erase it at any time using the “Reset progress” option in the app menu, or by clearing the app’s data / uninstalling the App.
The App — the paid version you install from the App Store or Google Play, and the App Clip — may use Google Analytics (our own property) to record how the game is used: that the App was opened or launched for the first time after installing, which lesson and language were chosen, that a round started or ended, and whether a store or rating prompt was shown or tapped. This tells us where the game is confusing or too hard, so we can improve it. Google Signals and ad personalisation are switched off; no advertising identifier (Apple IDFA or Google Advertising ID) is read or sent.
When we advertise the App, we want to know whether an ad led to a download. For that we rely on the stores’ own attribution: Google Play’s install referrer, and Apple’s privacy-preserving install attribution (AdAttributionKit / SKAdNetwork and Apple Search Ads attribution). These tell us which campaign an install came from — not who installed it. We do not combine App data with data from other companies’ apps or websites for advertising, and we do not track anyone across other companies’ apps or websites.
The game is fully playable offline. Measurement is never needed to play: when the device is offline, nothing is sent and the game works exactly the same.
Measurement never includes your child’s learning progress, word-mastery stats, word lists, or anything else from Section 2.
The App can read game prompts aloud. This uses your device’s own built-in text-to-speech feature. No audio or text is sent to us or to any server for this to work.
The game itself runs entirely on your device. The App’s only third-party service is the Google Analytics measurement described in Section 3, processed under Google's privacy policy; it contains no advertising or social SDKs. The App is distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play; those platforms have their own privacy policies governing app downloads, which are outside our control.
You can play the game for free in a browser at abcsmash.rcms.ch (the same site
is also reachable as abcshooter.web.app). That website is where we advertise the App,
so — like most websites — we measure it, in order to know how many people arrive, how far into a
lesson they get, and whether they go on to the store.
Every visit in a browser loads Google Analytics (our own property). It sets
its own cookies (_ga, _ga_…) so a repeat visit can be recognised as the
same browser. Google Signals and ad personalisation are switched off, so no
advertising identifier is used and no advertising profile is built about you or your child.
Processed under Google's privacy policy.
What it records is the game’s own progress, not you: that the page was opened, that the menu appeared, that a round started or ended, which lesson and language were chosen, and whether a store link was tapped. It never sees your name, your email, or anything you could be identified by, and it never sees the content of Section 2.
When we run an ad campaign, the ad links to a demo page —
abcsmash.rcms.ch/?demo — which plays a limited trial of a few rounds per lesson.
Only on that page, and only if you actually arrived from an ad, one additional
advertising tag loads, belonging to the network you came from:
Only the network you actually came from is ever loaded — never two of them. These set their own cookies. They are told at most three things and nothing more: that the page was opened, that a trial finished, and that a store link was tapped — Snapchat is told only the first and the last of those. They are never told anything about how a game went, and none of them is given an email address or a phone number, because the game never asks anyone for either.
If you would rather not be counted on the website, you can block cookies for the site in your browser or use a content blocker.
The App and the website collect no personal information from anyone, and so none from children. We do not knowingly create profiles of any user, including children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country), and we never target advertising at children.
The usage measurement in Sections 3 and 5 carries no advertising identifier and no ad personalisation — switched off deliberately and permanently, which is what the Google Play Families Policy requires of analytics in a children’s app. It is used to improve the game and to count which campaigns lead to downloads, never to identify a child or to build a profile of one.
The advertising tags in Section 5 are stricter still: they load only on the demo page, and only for a visitor who arrived from an ad shown to adults — TikTok’s and Snapchat’s own policies restrict their advertising to users aged 18 and over — where the message the page ends on is a purchase decision for a parent. Our campaigns are aimed at parents, never at children.
Your child’s progress and settings (Section 2) are never sent to us. They are fully under your control and can be removed at any time from within the App or by uninstalling it.
The usage measurement described in Sections 3 and 5 is held in our Google Analytics property. It contains no name, email address, or other detail that identifies you, so we cannot look up or hand over “your” data — there is no key to look it up by. On the website you can clear the cookies for the site at any time; in the App, uninstalling it or clearing its data discards the identifier linking one session to the next. If you have a question about it, write to us at the address in Section 9.
If we change this policy, we will update the “Last updated” date above and post the new version at this address. Material changes will be reflected before they take effect.
